Susan Oakley

Susan L. Oakley MS, LMHC runs Oakely Counseling LLC out of the Bloomington Counseling Center office. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling.  She has over 15 years’ experience working in the mental health field with youth and adults.  Susan also holds certification through Juvenile Sexual Offending Counselor Certification Program (JSOCPP).  Susan has vast knowledge working both in group homes and community mental health.  She has worked with adult and juvenile probation, DCS, foster care and schools. These experiences have provided her with a diverse set of skills that allow her to work with a variety of clients.

Susan uses a client-centered approach, along with evidence-based practices that help each client attain their full potential.  She is trained in CBT, SFT, Gestalt, Motivational Interviewing, and many other therapy techniques. Susan is also well-versed in trauma-informed care, which serves as the backdrop to her cognitive processing techniques.

Susan has a desire and passion to help others. She works hard to provide a safe and secure setting that allows each person to reach their desired goals. She is also not your typical therapist that relies on psychotherapy techniques such as, “and how does that make you feel?”  Susan will however, support you, advocate for you, walk along beside you, and at times push you to obtain your desired outcome.  She believes that you have to meet people where they are in order to truly understand their needs and wants. Susan looks at each client as a person, not a diagnosis.

When Susan isn’t working she is remodeling her home, she enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
